Green 44 Gallery Portrait Open Call 2026
Green 44 Gallery invites artists from around the world to submit work for our upcoming online group exhibition dedicated to contemporary portraiture.
A portrait can reveal far more than someone’s physical appearance. It can communicate emotion, identity, personal history and the experiences that shape us. For this exhibition, we are looking for artworks that offer distinctive and thoughtful interpretations of the human figure.
Submissions may feature self-portraits, people from the artist’s life, imagined characters or symbolic figures. Artists are encouraged to explore subjects including culture, heritage, gender, relationships, vulnerability, resilience, memory and belonging.
We welcome artists at all stages of their careers and accept work across a wide range of visual practices, including:
Painting
Drawing
Photography
Mixed media
Collage
Printmaking
Sculpture
Textiles
Digital art
Experimental contemporary work
Selected artworks will be presented in a curated digital exhibition on the Green 44 Gallery website and promoted through our online platforms. This is an opportunity to share your creative voice, connect with an international audience and exhibit alongside artists from different backgrounds and perspectives.
Who Can Apply?
This international open call is open to artists aged 18 and over. We welcome applications from both emerging and established artists working across all visual art forms, including traditional, contemporary and experimental practices.
Artwork Submission
Each artist may submit one artwork image for consideration. If you are submitting a three-dimensional piece, you may create a single combined image showing the work from different angles.
We accept submissions in all visual art mediums.
Artist Awards
Green 44 Gallery Award
One artist will receive:
A dedicated online solo exhibition hosted on the Green 44 Gallery website
An artist interview exploring their practice, inspiration and creative journey
Promotional coverage across our social media platforms
Shortlisted Artists
Selected shortlisted artists will receive:
A featured artist profile on the Green 44 Gallery website
Promotion of their work across our social media platforms
Participation Fee
There is no fee to submit your application. Artists who are selected for the exhibition will be asked to pay a £15 participation fee to confirm their place. Unsuccessful applicants will not be charged.
How Work Will Be Selected
Every submission will be considered carefully. The selection process will focus on:
The strength and quality of the artwork
Its connection to portraiture and the exhibition’s themes
Originality and a clear personal style
The ideas and emotions communicated through the work
The quality of the submitted photograph
How the artwork contributes to the exhibition as a whole
Green 44 Gallery aims to present a varied collection of portraits reflecting different artistic styles, mediums, identities, cultures and lived experiences.
Online Exhibition
The selected artworks will be brought together in a curated online exhibition hosted on the Green 44 Gallery website.
The exhibition will be available to view internationally, giving participating artists an opportunity to introduce their work to new audiences. Following the exhibition, it will remain in the gallery’s online archive for one year, offering artists continued visibility.
